jackie & mike’s engagement session! | planting fields, oyster bay

Monday was the unofficial “last day of Summer” but I promise you, summer is still here! I met up with Jackie and Mike at Planting Fields in Oyster Bay. While they look absolutely amazing in their photographs, it was all of 90 + degrees outside and 90% humidity. The two of them didn’t complain and completely rocked their session! We started the session a little earlier than usual due to a threat of thunderstorms. Lucky for us the greenhouses were still open and we were able to sneak in for some shots I normally don’t get to do! I absolutely love how these tropical plants frame them – swoon! I didn’t want to keep them inside the tropical greenhouse too long (image – tropical greenhouse in 90 degree weather, yeah it was HOT) but I couldn’t pass up shooting as much as I could before the doors closed at 4:00. We then ventured outside into the park – I love when couples have never been to the location before. I know I normally encourage going to a location that means something to the couple, but their is something inspiring about showing off a cool location to a couple for the first time. We took advantage of all the golden light (and shade) we could. I cannot describe the sound of the thunder as we photographed. It was probably the fastest I have ever photographed Planting Fields, but we saw the storm clouds rolling in and wanted to make the very best of it!Aren’t they adorable?!Despite it being too late in the season for the rose arch, there is something romantic about the green vines. Jackie and Mike are getting married next September at Larkfield – we all kept saying how we hope for cooler weather for their wedding day! It always works out that way though, doesn’t it? Sweet moments in the garden. Jackie and Mike’s outfits were perfect. The color of Jackie’s dress and Mike’s shirt went so nicely with the fall florals in front of this cute little house. I was obsessed. Pretty ring detail – it is an oval beauty! And a nice photo for the mantle. One of my favorite “go-to” shots at Coe Hall. Snuggling like it isn’t too hot outside. They really were the happiest campers. I couldn’t have asked for a better couple on this extremely hot afternoon. It also was relatively quiet inside Planting Fields. Maybe the weather scared everyone off, but it was nice to have free roam over the park. Our original plan was to shoot inside Planting Fields for about an hour then head on over to Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park down the road for some beach photos. When we arrived to the beach it started raining – can you believe it?! Fortunately we snuck in some cool beach shots with the storm clouds and crazy wind. Right around this point the skies opened up and it started downpouring. The shoot was cut short, but honestly we captured SO many amazing shots that it was time to cool off. Jackie and Mike – thanks for being awesome! I will see you next year when you tie the knot! Cheers!
