cassie & joe’s engagement session! | montauk, new york

Summer always reminds me of Montauk. Every year my family rents a house in Montauk – a tradition going back to when I was just a kid. Going to Montauk was the highlight of the summer and a guaranteed good time with my Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Since I have started my photography career I have never photographed a Montauk engagement session, but believe me I think this one will be hard to beat. Before jumping into Cassie and Joe’s story, we have to look at how cute this pup is. Roxie is a 13 years old husky mix (so beautiful) but just a tad camera shy. She loves her Casssie (and Joe!) though.

I met Cassie and Joe at a bridal expo back in January. We then set up a one on one consultation and immediately clicked. When discussing locations for their engagement session, Montauk immediately came to mind. Not only was this where Joe popped the question but it was also the location where they ended up having their first date. Cassie had never been out to Montauk (what!) so Joe being from the Hamptons felt she just had to go to the lighthouse.

We started shooting right around 7:00 pm. Don’t you love how late the sunsets in the summer?! Oh and their wedding date is almost exactly one year away – how exciting! Cassie had me laughing at this point in the engagement session. She loves how obsessed (lol) I am with greenery and nature, and thought I would be missing it in Montauk. No worries girl – I scoped it out and found all the gorgeous green I could ever ask for! Aren’t they so precious?! You can tell they belong together. One of the best compliments I received from this happy couple was how my couples always look “at ease” in front of the camera. I would like to think it is also because my couples really love each other (and I may some ridiculous things while shooting – haha!)For two people who were quite nervous to be in front of the camera, they are quite naturals at it. I swear my couples start researching ideas on Pinterest or something because I was blown away with how easy it was to work with them! I loved Cassie’s hair – she had gotten it done earlier in the day but I loved the light “beachy” waves she had by the time we started shooting. It was the perfect hairstyle for this Montauk engagement session. Just testing the light – but how freakin’ cute?! Caught these moments. Cassie read my mind around this point. I kept looking at the water, wanting desperately to throw them in there. Luckily Cassie and Joe brought a second outfit to change into and even suggested they should go in the water. YAS PLEASE! These may be my favorite beach photos EVER. “We just want good photos” I believe was said, and I feel we delivered that and then some. So much love for these two. As we head back to the car for a wardrobe change the sun was just starting to set. A surfer had me laughing as he passed by, making a comment about that golden hour light. Before heading to Camp Hero I just couldn’t pass up this lighting in the parking lot. Yes, the parking lot. How romantic?! I loved Cassie’s white flowing dress and Joe’s light blue shirt. Simple and so gorgeous. Just when I thought the session couldn’t get any better, we showed up to Camp Hero. We took full advantage of the bluffs, cotton candy sky, and the lighthouse in the distance. I seriously felt like we were on a desert island, not Long Island. That water, that sky, and them! I was a happy photographer! Cassie and Joe, I know your wedding next year will be nothing less than amazing. Cheers!
